Divorce – Some Disassembly is Required

My younger brother is looking down the road to divorce and I can tell it’s bothering him. The Big D is a major step, maybe even more so than getting married to begin with. The fact that he has two children complicates things even further. For the sake of courtesy, I’m not going to go deeply into the details of why, but let’s say it is a long time coming.

Fortunately (At least for my brother), we have friends that have gone down this road. A friend married a crazy woman (literally) and had two kids with her, finally divorcing her in the messiest way possible. And said crazy woman (we’ll call her Jamie since that is her name) decided to use child custody law to her favor as much as possible, making my friend sweat for every last drop of child support she can wring out despite the fact he cares for the children half the time, then using hearsay and rumors to get custody so she can move out of state (since she is tired of living with her parents).

My brother’s wife isn’t quite that bad, but with children involved, it is bound to be complicated. So I guess the lessons learned from this is get a good lawyer specialized in custody cases, be civil and mature when the time comes, and don’t marry crazy people.
